If Thy Fiery Eye Deceive Thee..

Every time I search ebay for Fiery Eye, I get offered this sort of stuff:

Fiery eye jewellery! When what I’m really looking for is this sort of stuff:

That’s more like it! I don’t need jewellery to make me look nice, I’m frankly fucking lovely enough as it is, so I spent my money instead on this really nice large Fiery Eye from an Abebooks dealer. A total bargain, folks, at only £12.90 inclusive.

I’ve read this a few times, bloggers, and every time I get totally lost as to the whereabouts of the various busts. Anyone else have this problem? I’m pretty sure Robert Arthur must have been high on a cocktail of Buckie and deep fried pizza when he wrote it.

Monster Fun

There is definitely a surfeit of dustjacketted Monster Mountains out there, folks. As evidence I present this:This cost me the princely sum of £7.50 including postage. If you are asking why I bought it, its because my own copy has a small bash at the top of the spine and I thought that this may be a bit of an upgrade. Turns out its not of course, as it’s an ex-lib edition and the DJ has been laminated. Still, the boards are bright enough and I’m sure it will get more than it’s money back on eBay.

Life’s But A Laughing Shadow

Have a look at my Chumash Hoard!Nice, eh? This small hardback Laughing Shadow has just arrived from Abe. Some light fading and wear to the spine, granted, but otherwise looks good on the shelf. Many complain about how outlandish and unbelievable the plot is in this one, but for me it has one of Jupiter’s all time best deductions, when he noticed mustard on the bad guy’s sandwich wrapper. What’s with that cover though, eh? I have searched long and hard in that picture and still can find only two Investigators depicted. WTF? If I only wanted two Investigators, I would have bought a Hardy Boys book. When I buy a Three Investigators book, I want to see Three Investigators on the cover, not one, not two, but three. For fuck sake get it right next time unless you want to lose my custom.

Treasure Island

Some business to take care of in Paisley, so while there I thought I might have a goosey in Abbey Books. I remember the good old days when it was in Gordon Street and they had a most excellent back room with loads of old children’s books. This was the scene of many a triumph for me, with several T3I books including that most excellent dustjacketted Phantom Lake from my old collection. The prices used to be absolutely fantastic as well, folks, and I remember picking up a first edition St Clare’s book by Enid Blyton, complete with DJ, for a couple of quid. Anyway that was then and this is now, and the premises have moved to the other end of town as the original building was falling down. The business has been sold to new owners as well, who seem nice enough. The first thing I noticed when I went in was a large box of vintage children’s books on the floor. You know the kind of stuff; all hardback with dust jackets, 1960’s style. There were Bobbsey Twins, Biggles, some Blytons and a bunch of random adventure stories you have never heard of. Anyway I had a good root through it and although I never found any T3I, I did find a rather nice Trouble with Jennings. Or so I thought, but as I had a look past the DJ, it was actually a different book inside. Bollocks,eh? Well, serves me right for digressing from my main purpose, which was of course to find some T3I. There were none at all on the kids’ shelves, but when I was through in the back room browsing the film related titles, I found a couple of Three Investigators books. The owner told me he put them there due to the Hitchcock connection. Anyway, here are the books I bought:At only 80p each, these didn’t break the bank.
